Oman Participates in GCC-ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman today participated in the GCC-ASEAN ministerial meeting held in Kuala Lumpur as part of preparations for the upcoming GCC-ASEAN-China Summit, scheduled for May 27, 2025.
Oman’s delegation to the meeting was led by Sheikh Khalifa Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs. In his address, Al Harthy underscored the strength and effectiveness of cooperation between GCC and ASEAN countries in recent years, especially amid evolving global challenges.
He stressed the importance of enhanced solidarity and joint action in critical areas such as food security, energy, economic stability, and supply chain resilience. Al Harthy reaffirmed the Sultanate’s commitment to deepening its relations with regional and international partners and emphasized Oman’s desire to build bridges of cooperation with ASEAN nations.
Highlighting Oman’s historical and maritime ties with ASEAN countries, Al Harthy noted that such longstanding connections form a strong foundation for deeper economic, cultural, and developmental integration. He also pointed to the significance of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC), which Oman has signed with ASEAN member states, as a vital mechanism for enhancing mutual understanding and collaboration.
Addressing regional and international issues, Al Harthy reaffirmed Oman’s firm stance on the Palestinian cause. He called for united international efforts to halt the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid through open border crossings, and oppose any forced displacement of Palestinians. He reiterated the importance of achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The ministerial meeting reviewed final arrangements for the upcoming GCC-ASEAN-China Summit and reflected a shared commitment to strengthening inter-regional cooperation. Discussions also focused on advancing joint initiatives in the fields of security, economic development, inter-regional trade, energy and food security, as well as promoting cultural and educational exchanges.
The meeting was held within the broader framework of efforts to promote strategic dialogue and sustainable partnerships between the GCC and ASEAN regions.
