Oman Reaffirms Commitment to Climate Goals and Sustainable Development Ahead of COP30

Oman

Sao Paulo, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman has reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to environmental and climate objectives, highlighting the climate transition as a significant economic and development opportunity. Investments in clean energy, sustainable infrastructure, and climate intelligence were described as key drivers of growth in the twenty-first century.

This declaration was made by Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority of Oman, during a meeting of world leaders in the Brazilian city of Belém, held on the eve of the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will convene in two days with participation from 200 countries.

Dr. Al Amri outlined Oman’s environmental agenda under “Oman Vision 2040”, emphasizing that the Sultanate has prioritized the implementation of the three major international environmental agreements. He highlighted progress in advancing the national carbon neutrality strategy, activating the national carbon register, developing policies under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, and promoting renewable energy projects.

Addressing global climate challenges, he underscored the urgent impact of climate change on ecosystems, citing rising temperatures, ice melting, biodiversity loss, and forest fires as evidence that climate change is an undeniable reality. He stressed the necessity for nations to accelerate climate action, particularly in light of the October 2025 climate report, which revealed that current efforts remain below the required ambition.

Dr. Al Amri further emphasized the importance of institutional governance, noting: “The planet’s ecosystem is one indivisible system, which underscores the need to review the current global environmental institutional framework. Existing governance structures, designed for the past, are insufficient for addressing present and future challenges, resulting in wasted efforts and slow procedures. Strong institutional governance is fundamental to unifying efforts and confronting global challenges effectively.”

He also outlined Oman’s ongoing climate adaptation initiatives, including early warning systems, flood protection measures, the construction of resilient and sustainable cities, and the expansion of nature-based solutions.

Concluding his address, Dr. Al Amri affirmed that development and sustainability are complementary paths. He emphasized that achieving a just and equitable transition is crucial for ensuring a secure future, fostering a prosperous and sustainable economy, and preserving the environment as the best investment for future generations.
