Oman Rises 57 Places in UNIDO Global Quality Index

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman has made a significant leap in the United Nations Industrial Development Organization’s (UNIDO) Global Quality Index, advancing 57 places to rank 60th out of 155 countries. This marks a notable improvement from its previous position of 117th and places Oman 6th in the Middle East.

Dr. Saleh Said Masan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Industry and Commerce, attributed this achievement to the Ministry’s focus on enhancing the country’s specifications and standards sector. He emphasized that the development of Oman’s national system of specifications and standards, initiated in 2022, has been a key driver of this progress. This initiative includes several foundational projects such as the Hazm Platform for measurement services, the Omani conformity system, the establishment of the Oman Accreditation Centre, and measures for controlling precious metals.

The improvement in the index reflects Oman’s successful policies in quality system development, fostering innovation, and streamlining export-import processes, all of which have contributed to a better business environment and the attraction of foreign investment.

The Ministry is also focused on advancing national expertise in standardization, ensuring continued progress in quality performance. This includes investment in training, the development of digital systems using artificial intelligence, and further strengthening the country’s innovation ecosystem.

Emad bin Khamis Al Shukaili, Director General of the Directorate General of Specifications and Metrology at the Ministry, highlighted that the strategic development of the national system for specifications and measurements aligns with Oman Vision 2040 and the 10th five-year plan. The ongoing digitalization of services and improvement of national laboratories reflect Oman’s commitment to enhancing its quality standards and performance indices.
