The 18th edition of the GII highlighted Oman’s strong performance in several areas, placing the country among the top 20 globally in six sub-indicators. Oman ranked 9th in the development of economic cluster environments, 10th in policy stability for doing business, 12th in graduates in science and engineering, 14th in net foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows as a percentage of GDP, 15th in access to information and communication technology, and 16th in electricity production per capita.

The report also underlined Oman’s progress across three key pillars: it moved up three places in the Institutions pillar to 40th, climbed eight places in the Infrastructure pillar to 55th, and recorded a notable jump of 23 places in the Business Sophistication pillar to 63rd.

In addition, Oman registered substantial gains in seven specific sub-indicators. It advanced 60 places in patents by origin, 23 places in business sophistication, 22 places in high-tech manufacturing, and 21 places in both gross capital formation and net FDI inflows. The Sultanate also moved up 20 places in knowledge production and five places in research cooperation between industry and academia.

WIPO noted that these improvements reflect Oman’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its innovation ecosystem, diversify its economy, and enhance competitiveness on the global stage.
