Oman to Participate in 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman will participate in the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, scheduled to take place from July 29 to 31, 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland.
Oman’s delegation to the high-level parliamentary gathering will be led by Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council. The delegation’s participation underscores Oman’s commitment to global parliamentary dialogue and multilateral cooperation in the face of contemporary global challenges.
The conference is being organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in cooperation with the United Nations under the theme: “A World in Turmoil: Parliamentary Cooperation and Multilateralism for Peace, Justice and Prosperity for All.” The event will focus on strengthening parliamentary partnerships and legislative contributions to global peace, justice, and sustainable development amid rising geopolitical tensions and multifaceted crises.
Oman’s participation reaffirms its steadfast support for pluralism, dialogue, and international cooperation. It highlights the Sultanate’s proactive stance in promoting understanding among nations and its belief that global issues demand both legislative and diplomatic solutions.
The World Conference of Speakers of Parliament has evolved into the largest global assembly of its kind, bringing together over 300 speakers of parliament from 170 countries, along with high-level representatives of international organizations, civil society, academia, and media institutions.
Since its inception at the 2000 Millennium Summit in New York, the conference has served as a crucial platform for integrating national parliaments into global governance frameworks. It seeks to bridge the democratic gap at the international level by strengthening the role of legislative bodies in shaping and implementing global decisions.
Oman’s active engagement in such international forums reflects its dedication to fostering cooperation, peace, and inclusive development through parliamentary diplomacy and multilateral collaboration.
