Oman, University of Tokyo Explore Enhanced Scientific and Academic Cooperation

Salalah, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation held a meeting with a delegation from the University of Tokyo, Japan, to discuss strengthening academic and research collaboration, particularly in the exchange of students and researchers, as well as the scientific contributions of the Sultan Qaboos Chair for Middle East Studies.
The meeting, held on Sunday in Salalah, was chaired by Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, and Professor Teruo Fujii, President of the University of Tokyo, who is currently visiting the Sultanate of Oman with his accompanying delegation.
Discussions focused on advancing joint research programs, expanding the use of electronic platforms, and promoting annual competitions and events organized by the Ministry to foster scientific research and innovation.
Both sides emphasized the importance of developing graduates’ skills to meet global labor market demands and highlighted the role of open resources such as the Ministry’s Shuaa platform in supporting this objective.
The meeting also explored opportunities for organizing joint scientific events between the University of Tokyo and Omani institutions in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as facilitating the exchange of Omani students abroad. Additionally, the two parties discussed the possibility of the University of Tokyo allocating scholarships for Omani students and offering short courses in Arabic language for non-native speakers.
