Omani and German Companies Forge Green Hydrogen Agreements

Berlin, The Gulf Observer: In a significant stride towards sustainable energy solutions, Omani and German companies have inked several pivotal agreements aimed at delivering green hydrogen to refining stations across Germany. The memorandum of understanding was formalized during a high-level meeting between Salim bin Naser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals of Oman, and Dr. Robert Habeck, Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany, held in Berlin.

The cornerstone agreement includes a memorandum of understanding between Hydrom (Hydrogen Oman) and the German firm VNG, focusing on a comprehensive feasibility study for the establishment of an integrated Omani-German supply chain dedicated to green hydrogen and ammonia. Additionally, a landmark agreement on the sale and purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) was reached between Oman LNG and Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE) Company, further solidifying bilateral energy cooperation.

The meeting, attended by esteemed delegates including Pankaj Khimji, Advisor for Foreign Trade and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, and Maitha bint Saif Al Mahrooqi, the Sultanate’s ambassador to Germany, facilitated discussions on the evolving energy landscape in Germany, emphasizing the growing importance of green hydrogen and energy solutions.

The visit of Minister Al Aufi to Germany underscores the mutual commitment to bolstering cooperation in the energy sector, leveraging expertise in green hydrogen, ammonia production, and cutting-edge energy technologies. The discussions aimed to bridge the gap between suppliers and consumers while addressing pertinent challenges in the energy market.

During Oman’s participation in the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) Conference, Minister Al Aufi emphasized the paramountcy of international collaboration in advancing the global energy transition agenda.

Dr. Firas bin Ali Al Abdwani, Director General of Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, highlighted the visit as a pivotal opportunity for bilateral cooperation, knowledge exchange, and the exploration of new markets for low-emission hydrogen.

The agreements signify a significant step forward in fostering sustainable energy partnerships between Oman and Germany, poised to drive innovation and contribute to the global transition towards a greener future.
