Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: In a pioneering initiative that unites literary expression with environmental advocacy, the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) and PlanetPulse signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly promote climate awareness through literature, storytelling, and education.

The MoU was formally signed at PAL’s headquarters in Islamabad by Dr. Najeeba Arif, Chairperson of PAL, and Dr. Khalid Khan, Founder of PlanetPulse. The agreement reflects a shared commitment to elevating climate literacy across Pakistan by weaving environmental narratives into the country’s literary and cultural fabric.

Under the three-year partnership, PAL and PlanetPulse will collaborate on climate-themed literary content, organize public events such as Mushairas, fellowships, and storytelling workshops, and co-publish anthologies in Urdu and regional languages. The MoU also includes joint efforts in public engagement, academic collaboration, and policy advocacy, aimed at positioning literature as a vital tool for environmental transformation.

A major initiative under the agreement is the development of a Climate Literature Archive—a multilingual online repository of Pakistani literary works that address environmental issues and climate challenges. In addition, PlanetPulse will host a special session on climate literature during PAL’s forthcoming Youth Literature Festival, scheduled for August 12–13, to introduce young writers to the urgency of climate discourse.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr. Najeeba Arif hailed the collaboration as “a timely convergence of creative vision and civic responsibility,” underscoring the role of literature in shaping public awareness and collective consciousness. Dr. Khalid Khan highlighted the power of storytelling in reframing the climate narrative and mobilizing action, particularly among youth and marginalized communities.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials and representatives of both organizations, including Mr. Sultan Nasir (Director General, PAL), Ms. Umama Khalid (Director, PlanetPulse), Mr. Asim Butt (Director, PAL), Mr. Mir Nawaz Solangi, Mr. Akhtar Raza Saleemi, Ms. Rafiqa Nazli, Mr. Muhammad Sajid, and Mr. Junaid Khalid.

This partnership marks a significant step toward cultural and environmental sustainability in Pakistan, aiming to bridge literary heritage with the global urgency of climate action.
