Pakistan and Turkmenistan Pledge to Deepen Parliamentary Cooperation and Strategic Connectivity
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: His Excellency Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani, Honorable Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, met with Her Excellency Dunyagozel Akmuhammedovna Gulmanova, Chairperson of the Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan, for a high-level dialogue focused on strengthening parliamentary ties and advancing strategic cooperation between the two nations.
During the meeting, both sides conducted a comprehensive review of the current state of inter-parliamentary collaboration and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral exchanges. They emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation not only in the parliamentary sphere but also in areas such as people-to-people contacts, trade, and regional connectivity.
Chairman Gillani underscored the significance of major regional initiatives, including the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission project, and the fiber optic connectivity initiative. He reiterated Pakistan’s strong support for these projects, which are vital for regional integration and economic progress.
In a bid to institutionalize parliamentary cooperation, Chairman Gillani invited Chairperson Gulmanova to undertake an official visit to Pakistan along with a parliamentary friendship group. He proposed the establishment of structured mechanisms for inter-parliamentary engagement, including joint meetings, seminars, and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate regular exchanges and collaboration.
Chairperson Gulmanova warmly welcomed the invitation and expressed keen interest in advancing parliamentary relations between the two countries. She agreed on the need to intensify bilateral efforts to foster mutual understanding and legislative cooperation.
Chairman Gillani concluded the meeting by expressing sincere gratitude for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to his delegation, noting that such engagements reflect the enduring friendship and shared vision between Pakistan and Turkmenistan.
