Pakistan, US Agree to Expand Cooperation on Immigration, Law Enforcement

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held an important meeting with the United States Ambassador to Pakistan, Natalie Baker, in Islamabad, during which both sides discussed expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest and further strengthening Pakistan–US relations.
According to the Interior Ministry, the meeting featured detailed discussions on enhancing collaboration, particularly in curbing illegal immigration and improving the effectiveness of the pre-immigration clearance system. The two sides also agreed to increase cooperation at all levels in law-enforcement training, with a special focus on capacity building for the police.
A key decision taken during the meeting was to launch joint operations, under comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs), against networks involved in fake and fraudulent visa activities. Minister Naqvi reiterated that the government has adopted a “zero-tolerance policy” toward agent mafias and individuals facilitating illegal migration, and he welcomed US support in these efforts.
“I am personally monitoring the actions against fake visa networks,” the interior minister said, adding that Pakistan’s passport has been made foolproof through the use of modern technology. Describing illegal immigration as a serious challenge, he noted that a robust crackdown against those attempting to reach the United States through illegal means is ongoing.
Minister Naqvi said effective government measures have resulted in a 47 percent reduction in illegal immigration, stressing that individuals involved in producing or facilitating fake documentation would not be shown any leniency.
US Ambassador Natalie Baker reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to its relationship with Pakistan, emphasizing the importance the United States places on bilateral ties. “We attach special importance to our ties with Pakistan,” she said, adding that aligned priorities and expanded cooperation would further strengthen relations between the two countries.
