Pakistan Welcomes Trump’s Offer to Mediate Kashmir Dispute

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Pakistan on Sunday welcomed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s renewed offer to mediate the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir dispute, underscoring the importance of a peaceful resolution in accordance with international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions.
In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said Islamabad appreciates President Trump’s expression of support for efforts to bring peace to the region.
“We appreciate President Trump’s expression of support for peace efforts,” Khan stated. “The Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains a core issue, with implications for regional and global security. Any settlement must align with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and ensure the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.”
The spokesperson also acknowledged the constructive role played by the United States and other friendly nations in facilitating the recently announced ceasefire understanding between Pakistan and India, which came after a period of heightened military tensions along the Line of Control.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working with the United States and the international community to foster regional peace and economic development.
“Pakistan remains committed to engaging with the U.S. and the international community to promote peace, security, and economic cooperation in the region,” Khan added. “We look forward to deepening our multifaceted partnership with the United States, particularly in trade, investment, and development sectors.”
The remarks follow a message by former President Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social, in which he described the latest agreement between India and Pakistan as “historic and heroic.” He praised both nations for halting what he termed “escalating aggression,” and expressed pride in their leadership.
“I am very proud of the strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership of India and Pakistan for having the strength, wisdom, and fortitude to fully know and understand that it was time to stop the current aggression that could have led to the death and destruction of so many, and so much,” Trump wrote.
Trump also pledged to support efforts to resolve the Kashmir dispute and expressed a desire to increase trade substantially with both South Asian nations.
