Pakistani Sindh Bank Explores Opening Branch in Uzbekistan to Boost Banking Cooperation

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: A Pakistani commercial bank has begun exploring opportunities to expand its presence in Central Asia as discussions were held on the possibility of opening a branch in Uzbekistan.
With the support of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Islamabad, an online meeting took place between representatives of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan and Sindh Bank of Pakistan to discuss prospects for enhancing bilateral banking cooperation.
During the meeting, the participants examined the possibility of establishing a branch of Sindh Bank in Uzbekistan and discussed the potential for creating correspondent banking relationships with Uzbek financial institutions. The discussions also covered facilitating trade transactions in national currencies, including the Uzbek soum and the Pakistani rupee, to promote smoother bilateral trade.
Officials noted that Uzbekistan’s strong international banking network could help provide Pakistani businesses with improved access to Central Asian markets, opening new opportunities for trade and investment in the region.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue consultations and hold another online session in the near future to further advance banking cooperation between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
