Palembang Hosts World’s First Riverside International Jazz Festival
Palembang, The Gulf Observer: The city of Palembang made history by hosting the world’s first riverside international jazz festival at the iconic Kuto Besak Fortress on Saturday, November 30. The Suara Musi International Jazz Festival 2024, a celebration of music and culture, drew thousands of attendees from across the globe.
The festival was initiated by Ucok Abdul Rauf Damenta, the Acting Mayor of Palembang during his tenure from June to November 2024. His efforts received high praise from the newly inaugurated Acting Mayor, Cheka Virgowansyah, who commended the initiative’s success.
“This event will undoubtedly be a blessing for Palembang City. Let us appreciate it by enjoying the event peacefully,” Virgowansyah remarked during the festival, set against the picturesque backdrop of the Musi River.
The event featured stellar performances by renowned jazz artists, including Indonesia’s legendary Fariz RM, the World Jazz Society, Mengara Jazz Project, Imaniar Feat. Idham Noorsa’id, and Marion Jola. Complementing these international and national acts were vibrant showcases of local talent and traditional cultural arts from Palembang.
The Suara Musi International Jazz Festival 2024 is expected to not only elevate the city’s cultural and musical standing but also serve as a platform to highlight Palembang’s rich heritage and artistic potential.
The festival has set a precedent for similar events in the future, reinforcing Palembang’s position as a cultural and artistic hub in South Sumatra.
