PCB to Announce White-Ball Squads and New Captain for Australia Series Next Week

White-Ball Squads

Lahore, The Gulf Observer: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to reveal the white-ball squads and the new captain for the upcoming series against Australia next week, according to sources. Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan is reportedly being considered as the top candidate for the captaincy role.

While the selection committee has recommended Rizwan as the preferred choice to lead Pakistan’s side, the final decision will be made by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi after consultations with the selectors and other senior officials.

In terms of squad selection, fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain, who last represented Pakistan in a One-Day International (ODI) in 2023, is poised for a potential comeback. Hasnain’s performances in the recent Champions Cup and President’s Cup have impressed selectors, putting him back in contention.

All-rounder Aamir Jamal and wicketkeeper-batsman Haseebullah are also under consideration for the Australian tour, adding depth to Pakistan’s options in the white-ball formats.

The series kicks off with the second ODI at Adelaide Oval on November 8, followed by the third ODI on November 10 at Perth Stadium. Pakistan will then face Australia in three T20 matches from November 14 to 18, with games scheduled in Brisbane, Sydney, and Hobart.

Earlier this week, Cricket Australia announced their 14-member squad for the ODI series, starting November 4 at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Pat Cummins returns as captain following the absence of Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, who are unavailable due to paternity leave. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short will step in as openers.
