Pezeshkian and Lukashenko Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations
Kazan, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held talks with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on Thursday, discussing the expansion of bilateral relations between their countries. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, where both leaders emphasized the growing cooperation between Iran and Belarus.
President Pezeshkian highlighted that the pattern of expanding interactions between Iran and Russia could also be extended to Belarus, pointing to the shared potential for enhancing ties across various sectors.
Referring to the shifting global landscape, Pezeshkian noted the diminishing influence of unilateralism and the impact of sanctions. He remarked that the United States and other Western countries are coming to terms with significant changes they cannot control. “Today, the world is no longer following the US, and independent countries have managed to overcome US totalitarianism through extensive cooperation in various contexts, including regional and international organizations,” Pezeshkian stated, adding that US efforts to undermine independent nations through sanctions have failed.
During the talks, President Lukashenko extended an invitation to President Pezeshkian to visit Belarus, underscoring his country’s readiness to accelerate the implementation of agreements with Iran. Lukashenko noted the wide range of fields and opportunities available to enhance cooperation, emphasizing Belarus’s willingness to exchange experiences and capabilities with Iran.
Both leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening ties and advancing mutual interests through deeper economic, political, and technological cooperation.
