Philippine Army Chief Urges Signal Regiment to Strengthen Cyber Defense Capabilities

Manila, The Gulf Observer: Philippine Army (PA) commander Lieutenant General Roy M. Galido has urged the Army Signal Regiment (ASR) to continue enhancing its capabilities in cyber defense, underscoring its pivotal role in securing the country’s cyberspace against emerging threats.

Galido made the call during the 14th founding anniversary of the ASR on Wednesday, as reported by PA spokesperson Colonel Louie Dema-ala.

“Communication. Connectivity. Cybersecurity. These are the cornerstones of the ASR’s unwavering commitment to the Philippine Army,” Galido said during the commemorative event. “Today, we recognize not just the passage of 14 years, but the remarkable progress and invaluable contributions of the ASR to the operational effectiveness of our entire force.”

He emphasized that in an era marked by rapid technological advances and increasingly complex cyber threats, the ASR holds a critical role in protecting the country’s digital infrastructure and military networks.

Galido, who has previously identified the development of secure, resilient, and redundant communication systems as a top priority, praised the ASR for its dedication to establishing dependable and secure signal operations across the Army.

“You [ASR] are at the forefront of our digital defense—safeguarding networks, protecting critical information, and ensuring the integrity of our cyber domain,” he declared.

He also acknowledged the ASR’s consistent delivery of reliable signal services, which he said are the backbone of the Army’s command and control capabilities.

“These advanced communication systems empower our commanders with real-time situational awareness and the ability to make informed decisions on the battlefield,” Galido added.

The ASR has been instrumental in implementing cutting-edge technologies and digital protocols that enhance both strategic and tactical communication, further strengthening the Army’s overall operational readiness.

As the Army confronts 21st-century challenges, Galido’s message reinforced the importance of cyber resilience as a fundamental element of national security.
