PM Chinh Directs Urgent Measures to Address Severe Cold Wave in Northern Vietnam
Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has issued an official dispatch, urging local administrations in northern and north-central regions, along with relevant ministries, to take immediate and comprehensive measures in response to the prolonged and severe cold wave currently affecting the area. The recent strong cold air wave has led to temperatures dropping to under 10 degrees Celsius in the northern region, with mountainous highland areas experiencing frost and ice.
The National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting has reported that this is the most intense cold spell witnessed so far this winter. In light of these conditions, the Prime Minister’s dispatch emphasizes the need for urgent action to prevent and minimize the impact of the cold weather on human health and agricultural production.
Provincial and city people’s committees in the affected regions are directed to implement comprehensive measures to safeguard the well-being of residents and protect agricultural activities. Specific attention should be given to providing guidance on health and safety practices, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children. Additionally, measures to protect animals and plants are underscored.
Local authorities are instructed to closely monitor weather developments and disseminate timely information to residents. Enhancing communication channels to ensure the public is well-informed about preventive measures is a priority.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is tasked with closely monitoring and guiding localities in caring for animals and crops. Special emphasis is placed on preparing production plans for the Winter-Spring crop, including adjusting crop structures to suit prevailing weather conditions.
The Ministry of Health is directed to coordinate with information and media agencies to educate the public on effective and safe disease prevention measures during the cold spell.
The dispatch calls for collaboration among various ministries, including Natural Resources and Environment, Communications and Information, and key media organizations such as Vietnam Television, the Voice of Vietnam radio broadcaster, and the Vietnam News Agency. These entities are expected to play a crucial role in providing relevant information and focusing on effective solutions to cope with the challenges posed by the severe cold wave.
The Prime Minister’s dispatch underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of citizens and protecting vital sectors of the economy during adverse weather conditions.
