President Aliyev Highlights ‘Baku Breakthrough’ at CICA Think Tank Forum

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev described the successful outcomes of COP29, held in Baku last November, as the historic “Baku Breakthrough” during his address at the 13th Meeting of the CICA Think Tank Forum, themed “Resonance of Development and Security: Regional Cooperation and Governance in the Institutional Transformation of CICA.”
Reflecting on Azerbaijan’s multilateral contributions, President Aliyev recalled the country’s chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement from 2019 to 2023, during which Baku stood firmly against injustices faced by Global South countries and worked to strengthen the Movement’s role on the international stage.
“It is commendable that the founding conference of the Global South NGO Platform was held this year in Baku,” the head of state said, underlining Azerbaijan’s initiatives in promoting inclusivity and international cooperation.
He further noted that as Chair of COP29, Azerbaijan has prioritized advancing the perspectives of Global South countries in climate negotiations and addressing the pressing needs of the least developed nations, particularly small island states most vulnerable to climate change.
