President Aliyev Highlights Ethical Conduct of Azerbaijani Armed Forces During Second Karabakh War

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev reaffirmed the professionalism and adherence to international norms by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces during the Second Karabakh War, as he addressed participants at the international forum titled “Facing the New World Order”, held at ADA University in Baku.
Reflecting on the military operations, President Aliyev stated, “Our conduct of military operations during the Second Karabakh War clearly demonstrated the very high-level of capability of Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces. We did not take revenge, though one can imagine what feelings we all lived with through the years of occupation, especially when we returned to Karabakh and saw the barbarism and vandalism.”
He emphasized that Azerbaijan’s military actions were rooted in discipline and guided by international humanitarian law and ethical principles. “I said many times that we will take revenge on the battlefield. We will not do anything beyond normal human behavior and beyond the rules of war, which we are committed to. And that was the case. We conducted the war with respect to all international rules and our own understanding about values,” President Aliyev stressed.
The head of state noted that this approach was recognized by international experts, who closely analyzed the course of the 44-day conflict. He underlined that Azerbaijan’s strategic restraint and commitment to law and ethics during wartime operations serve as a model of responsible military conduct.
The forum brought together global policymakers, scholars, and experts to discuss pressing international challenges and evolving geopolitical dynamics. President Aliyev’s remarks underscored Azerbaijan’s perspective on regional conflicts, state sovereignty, and the importance of rule-based order in international affairs.
