President Erdogan Calls for Global Recognition of Palestinian State at UNGA

New York, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged world leaders to recognise Palestine as an independent state during his address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday. He emphasized the urgency of international acknowledgment for Palestine amid escalating violence in Gaza and the broader Middle East.

“I invite those states that have yet to recognise Palestine to stand on the right side of history during this critical period and promptly acknowledge the Palestinian state,” Erdogan declared. He stressed that the establishment of a fully independent and sovereign Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, ensuring its territorial integrity, can no longer be delayed.

Erdogan expressed frustration with the United Nations’ failure to address global conflicts effectively, calling for significant reforms within the organisation. “In recent years, the United Nations has failed to carry out its foundational mission, gradually transforming into an inefficient, cumbersome, and inactive structure,” Erdogan stated.

Turning to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the Turkish leader condemned Israel’s actions, stating, “As a result of Israel’s attacks, Gaza has become the world’s largest graveyard for children and women.” He highlighted the devastating impact on civilians and criticised international media for ignoring the deaths of journalists in the region. “To international media organisations, I ask: Aren’t the journalists murdered live on air and whose offices were raided by Israel your colleagues?” he questioned.

Erdogan also accused the Israeli government of committing genocide against Palestinians and occupying their lands. “The Israeli administration, disregarding basic human rights, is implementing an open genocide against a nation and occupying their lands step by step. Palestinians use their legitimate right of resistance to this occupation,” he declared.

The Turkish president called on the United Nations Security Council to take immediate action, urging them to intervene and stop the bloodshed. “UN Security Council, what are you waiting for to stop the genocide in Gaza, to say ‘enough’ to this cruelty, this barbarity?” he asked.

Erdogan also criticised those stoking regional instability for political gain, warning of broader consequences. “What are you waiting for to stop this network of massacres that is dragging the entire region into war for political ambition?” he said.

Concluding his speech, Erdogan drew a historical parallel, stating, “Just as Hitler was stopped by the alliance of humanity 70 years ago, Netanyahu and his murderous network must be stopped by the alliance of humanity.”

His impassioned plea comes as tensions in the region continue to rise, with calls for international intervention growing stronger.
