President Ilham Aliyev Accepts Credentials of Newly Appointed French Ambassador

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev today accepted the credentials of Sophie Lagoutte, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Azerbaijan.

During the official ceremony, Ambassador Lagoutte presented her credentials to the head of state.

Recalling his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Copenhagen, President Ilham Aliyev noted that, as a result of that meeting, previous misunderstandings between the two countries had been resolved. He emphasized that a new era had begun in Azerbaijan-France relations, highlighting the importance of restoring and developing contacts between people and business representatives, as well as expanding cooperation in cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Ambassador Lagoutte expressed satisfaction at the opening of a new page in bilateral relations, pledging to make every effort to further strengthen and develop ties between Azerbaijan and France.

The meeting also addressed the successful development of cooperation between the two countries in various sectors, including high technologies and aerospace. Both sides underlined the importance of resuming the activities of the Intergovernmental Commission, fostering sister-city partnerships, organizing reciprocal business visits, and promoting the participation of French companies in diverse projects.

Special attention was given to the fruitful collaboration between Azerbaijan and France in the energy sector, particularly emphasizing the partnership with Total.

During the conversation, President Aliyev and Ambassador Lagoutte exchanged views on the future prospects of bilateral relations and reaffirmed the necessity of sustaining comprehensive cooperation across multiple fields.
