President Ilham Aliyev Highlights New Middle Corridor Extension Through Armenia After Peace Agreement

President Ilham Aliyev

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President Ilham Aliyev announced that Azerbaijan is working on a new extension of the Middle Corridor transport route that will pass through Armenia following the achievement of peace between the two countries.

Speaking at the Global Baku Forum, President Aliyev said the planned corridor would create new regional connectivity and transform Armenia into a transit country for the first time since gaining independence.

“After peace with Armenia, we are working closely on a new extension of the Middle Corridor, which will go through the territory of Armenia,” the Azerbaijani leader stated during his address.

Aliyev noted that the project would allow Armenia to play a new role in regional transportation and trade networks.

“Armenia, for the first time in its independent history, will also be a transit country, which today it is not,” he said.

The Azerbaijani president added that the initiative would help link two parts of Azerbaijan — the mainland and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic — strengthening economic connectivity and regional integration.

The Middle Corridor, also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, is considered a strategic trade route connecting Asia and Europe through the South Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Caspian Sea.
