President Ilham Aliyev Receives Russian Deputy PM Alexei Overchuk in Baku

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Alexei Overchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Commission, on March 2 to discuss key issues on the bilateral agenda.

During the meeting, the Russian side expressed sincere gratitude to the Azerbaijani leadership for the prompt assistance extended in evacuating Russian citizens from the Islamic Republic of Iran amid the complex and tense regional situation.

The two sides held a broad exchange of views on Azerbaijan–Russia relations, reviewing current cooperation and future priorities. It was noted that, in accordance with the agreements reached by the leaders of Azerbaijan and Russia during their meeting in Dushanbe on October 9, 2025, comprehensive practical measures will be undertaken in the near future to address matters arising from the crash of the AZAL aircraft on December 25, 2024.

Discussions also focused on expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in key sectors, including economy, trade, investment, industry, and transport-logistics. Both parties underscored their shared intention to further strengthen economic ties and enhance regional connectivity.

Particular attention was given to advancing the International North–South Transport Corridor, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continuing coordinated efforts to promote the strategic transit route.

The meeting also covered several humanitarian issues of mutual interest.

Talks were held in the traditional atmosphere of friendship and constructive dialogue that characterizes interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Russia.
