President Jokowi and First Lady Prepare to Cast Votes in 2024 General Elections
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: In anticipation of the upcoming 2024 General Elections, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana are set to exercise their voting rights at Polling Station No. 10 in Gambir, Central Jakarta, on February 14.
The official announcement came after the couple received their voter notification card from Hamdy Basjar, the head of Polling Station No. 10 organizing committee, at the Merdeka Palace on Monday. Basjar informed the media, “We have just delivered the voter notification card to the President and the First Lady.”
Situated in the State Administration Agency Building in Gambir sub-district, east of the Presidential Palace, the President’s designated polling station is expected to cater to 120 voters listed in the final voters’ list. Additionally, it will accommodate voters from the supplementary voters’ list (DPTb) and those who register on the spot at the polling station.
Basjar shared details about the President’s voting schedule, stating, “Mr. President, God Willing, will cast his vote here. The President and the First Lady probably will come to the polling station between 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.” He recalled that President Jokowi had cast his vote at the same polling station during the 2019 General Election.
Aside from the President and the First Lady, other officials are expected to cast their votes at Polling Station No. 10. However, Basjar clarified that their identities will only be disclosed on Election Day when they arrive at the polling station.
“There are other officials included in the DPTb, but I do not know who they are. DPTb means they are not registered here as they applied (polling station changes) directly to the city-level KPU (General Elections Commission). Hence, we will only know who they are during Election Day,” explained Basjar.
President Jokowi, during the meeting with election officials, emphasized the importance of performing duties truthfully, firmly, and thoroughly to ensure the success of the elections, turning it into a celebration of democracy for the Indonesian people.
