President Jokowi and Tajikistan PM Discuss Water Management Cooperation

Bali, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Joko Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, met with Tajikistan Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda on Monday to discuss cooperation in water resources management. The bilateral meeting took place on the sidelines of the 10th World Water Forum Summit in Bali, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in addressing global water challenges.

According to a press release from the president’s office, both leaders underscored the critical need for international cooperation to tackle water-related issues. President Widodo expressed gratitude for Tajikistan’s support for the forum and reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to ensuring sustainable clean water quality for shared prosperity.

“We are committed to working together to ensure the sustainability of clean water quality for mutual prosperity. And I ask for Tajikistan’s contribution as one of the leaders in global water policy to find joint solutions,” Jokowi stated.

Prime Minister Rasulzoda reciprocated by expressing his appreciation for the invitation to the summit and emphasized the importance of the bilateral relationship between Tajikistan and Indonesia. He praised Indonesia for its constructive role in regional and international affairs and acknowledged the country’s significant achievements in economic and social development.

“Tajikistan recognizes Indonesia as an important partner in the region and is interested in strengthening multilateral and mutually beneficial cooperation. We appreciate Indonesia’s significant achievements in the economic and social development sector,” Rasulzoda said.

Rasulzoda extended an invitation to the Indonesian delegation to attend the international conference on the International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development,” scheduled to be held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. He highlighted the upcoming 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2024 as a pivotal opportunity to deepen and expand their cooperation.

“Our relations still need to be strengthened and expanded,” he added.

The bilateral meeting was attended by several Indonesian ministers, including Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi and Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, further demonstrating the commitment of both nations to enhance their collaboration on water management and other critical issues.
