President Jokowi Welcomes Tanzanian Counterpart to Bogor Presidential Palace

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hosted the Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, at the Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java. President Hassan, accompanied by her delegation, arrived at 10:30 a.m. local time, where the national anthems of Indonesia and Tanzania were played.

The leaders engaged in a series of activities, including a photo session, the signing of a memorandum of understanding, and a joint press statement held at the Teratai Building of the palace. The meeting aimed to follow up on discussions regarding potential bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, oil and gas, minerals, energy, and the blue economy, which began during President Jokowi’s visit to Tanzania in August 2023.

The Tanzanian President brought along three ministers and 131 business delegates, highlighting the collaborative efforts between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and the Tanzanian Government in organizing the Tanzania-Indonesia Business and Investment Forum at Hotel Mulia.

Accompanying President Jokowi were key figures including the Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, State Secretary Pratikno, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, and Investment Minister. The leaders planted tree seeds in the palace backyard to symbolize the conclusion of the visit.

During President Jokowi’s previous visit to Tanzania, discussions covered various aspects, including Indonesia’s commitment to supporting the revitalization of the Farmers Agriculture and Rural Training Center in Morogoro and meeting Tanzania’s pharmaceutical product requirements. Jokowi emphasized Indonesia’s interest in strengthening energy investment cooperation and proposed formulating a preferential trade agreement and a bilateral investment treaty to boost trade and ensure investment protection between the two nations.
