President Mirziyoyev Briefed on Strategic Transport Infrastructure Projects

President Mirziyoyev

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with a comprehensive update on the implementation of major projects in Uzbekistan’s transport sector, amid increasing demand driven by rapid economic growth and urban development.

During the briefing, it was noted that with the pace of life accelerating and the national economy expanding, the need for modern, efficient transport infrastructure continues to rise. Forecasts indicate that by 2030, annual passenger traffic through Tashkent could reach 15 million. However, the current capital airport, constrained by limited capacity and its location within city boundaries, cannot accommodate such growth or be expanded further.

To address this, the government is moving forward with plans to construct a new international airport in the Tashkent region. This large-scale initiative is being pursued through a public-private partnership framework, and several proposals from foreign companies are currently under consideration.

Officials presented detailed aspects of the proposed airport development, including technical specifications and investment models. They also highlighted the significant rise in investment in the road infrastructure sector in recent years. Construction of new road facilities is actively underway, and projects for alternative transport routes are being formulated to alleviate congestion in urban areas.

As part of this broader effort, a revised draft law “On Automobile Roads” has been prepared to enhance the legal framework and attract investment into the sector. This has already generated considerable interest, including from international companies keen to participate in the construction of an alternative high-speed highway connecting Tashkent and Samarkand.

President Mirziyoyev was briefed on the outcomes of recent negotiations and the range of proposals received from prospective investors and development partners.

The Head of State stressed the importance of conducting a thorough review of all infrastructure proposals, particularly those of strategic significance. He also emphasized the need to ensure the swift and effective implementation of these transformative projects, which are vital for the country’s long-term development and regional connectivity.
