President Mirziyoyev Launches Major Investment Projects in Samarkand Region

Samarkand, The Gulf Observer: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Wednesday took part in a ceremony marking the launch of major investment projects and the commencement of new construction initiatives during his visit to the Samarkand region.

The event featured an extensive exhibition showcasing products from key regional industries, including food processing, light industry, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, construction materials, metalworking, and furniture manufacturing. The President reviewed modern production capacities, advanced technologies, and a wide range of industrial outputs, highlighting the region’s growing economic significance.

Samarkand region continues to strengthen its position as a strategic economic hub, with steady industrial growth and an increasingly favorable business and investment climate. Officials noted a consistent rise in enterprises with foreign capital, reflecting growing investor confidence.

During the ceremony, it was announced that 106 new projects worth nearly $7 billion are ready for implementation across various cities and districts. Project leaders joined the event via video link as the President formally inaugurated several initiatives.

The projects span multiple sectors, including mining and geology, construction materials production, automotive manufacturing, chemical and electrical engineering industries, agriculture, as well as education, healthcare, services, and tourism. Addressing participants, President Mirziyoyev engaged with project implementers and representatives of local and international companies, listening to their proposals and initiatives.

He emphasized that these projects will play a vital role in strengthening the industrial capacity of the Samarkand region, modernizing production sectors, and ensuring sustainable economic growth. The President symbolically launched the projects by pressing a ceremonial button.

Of the total, 53 projects valued at $2.4 billion have been launched in cooperation with partners from Austria, China, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, India, and Russia. Additionally, construction has begun on another 53 projects worth $4.6 billion, involving collaboration with the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea, China, the UAE, Türkiye, Russia, and Iran.

The implementation of these initiatives is expected to create approximately 18,000 new jobs, generate industrial output worth 13 trillion Uzbek soums, and unlock export potential estimated at $700 million. These developments will further diversify the region’s industrial base and expand its export reach.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, the President was also briefed on ongoing efforts to enhance water resource management in the Narpay district, including the introduction of public-private partnership (PPP) models. Eight pumping stations have already been transferred to private management, with 21 pumping units modernized through investments totaling 12.3 billion soums. These upgrades have significantly reduced annual electricity consumption from 68.1 million to 34.1 million kilowatt-hours.

Authorities also outlined plans to integrate scientific approaches into water management practices, including the appointment of a scientific advisor to the regional administration and the introduction of dual education programs. Under this initiative, 72 students will undertake six-month internships in fields such as water management, agricultural mechanization, hydrotechnics, hydropower, cadastre, and ecology.

President Mirziyoyev instructed relevant officials to ensure the systematic and sustained implementation of these initiatives, underscoring their importance for the region’s long-term development.
