President of Turkmenistan Meets UN Secretary-General on Sidelines of LLDCs Conference in Avaza

Avaza, The Gulf Observer: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the Avaza National Tourist Zone, on the sidelines of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), according to official Turkmen media reports.
During the meeting, President Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the current conference would give strong impetus to the implementation of the new Programme of Action for LLDCs, which was officially adopted in December 2024. He reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s firm commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at fostering sustainable development and ensuring the integration of landlocked states into the global economic system.
UN Secretary-General Guterres conveyed his gratitude to the Turkmen authorities for the excellent organization of the high-level forum and commended Turkmenistan’s substantial contributions to addressing global challenges. He emphasized that Turkmenistan has emerged as a strategic partner of the United Nations, actively promoting the values of peace, security, and sustainable development both within the region and internationally.
Both sides expressed their shared belief that the outcomes of the Avaza conference would mark a significant milestone in expanding international cooperation and forging new transport and logistics corridors essential for landlocked nations. The meeting concluded with Secretary-General Guterres acknowledging Turkmenistan’s notable progress in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries has brought together heads of state and government from 32 nations, high-level delegations from UN member states, and senior UN officials, including the Secretary-General and his deputies. The event underscores the global commitment to addressing the unique development challenges faced by LLDCs and promoting their inclusive participation in the global economy.
