Astana, The Gulf Observer: President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, is attending the second summit of Central Asian heads of state with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, held in Astana, Kazakhstan. The meeting brings together leaders from Central Asia and Germany to discuss key global issues and reinforce cooperative ties.
Turkmenistan, known for its peacemaking foreign policy, has actively pursued constructive international dialogue, as initiated by National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and continued by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. This approach aligns with Turkmenistan’s neutral stance and its commitment to addressing global development challenges through diplomacy.
The “Central Asia – Germany” summit, an extension of the inaugural meeting held in Berlin in September 2023, focuses on fostering strategic partnerships between Germany and the five Central Asian nations. At that first summit, the leaders expressed their readiness to enhance cooperation in the interest of peace and sustainable development. Turkmenistan, under the leadership of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, welcomed the new multilateral format and signaled its intent to expand collaboration in mutually beneficial areas.
Germany remains a key economic partner for Turkmenistan, with a history of productive relations, regular business forums, and active cooperation through the Joint Turkmen-German Working Group. President Berdimuhamedov’s participation in this summit reaffirms Turkmenistan’s commitment to furthering these ties.
Prior to the summit, President Berdimuhamedov held bilateral meetings with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and executives from major German companies, strengthening economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
The summit, chaired by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, also includes the participation of President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan. Following the traditional group photo against the backdrop of national flags, the heads of delegations convened for discussions in the conference hall.
