President of Uzbekistan and Japanese PM Discuss Postponement of “Central Asia + Japan” Summit
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: On August 9, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, following an initiative by the Japanese side. The discussion focused on recent developments in Japan, particularly the strong earthquake that struck southeastern regions of the country and the subsequent tsunami warnings.
President Mirziyoyev expressed his deep concern over the natural disaster and conveyed his solidarity with the Japanese people during this challenging time.
In light of the earthquake and its aftermath, the Japanese side made the decision to postpone the first “Central Asia + Japan” summit, along with Prime Minister Kishida’s official visit to Uzbekistan, which were initially scheduled for August 10-11. President Mirziyoyev fully understood and supported this decision.
Both leaders agreed to continue with the necessary preparatory activities and to coordinate new dates for the summit and the official visit through diplomatic channels. This postponement reflects the mutual commitment of both nations to ensuring the success of the “Central Asia + Japan” initiative while prioritizing safety and stability.
