President Prabowo, Donald Trump Reach Reciprocal Tariff Deal During Washington Meeting

Washington, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto confirmed that his recent bilateral meeting with United States President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., produced mutually beneficial outcomes for both nations, particularly in the area of trade and tariffs.
The two leaders held a 30-minute session on Thursday, February 19, focusing on long-standing negotiations concerning reciprocal tariffs. Speaking to reporters in Washington on Saturday morning, President Prabowo described the outcome as positive and constructive.
“Negotiations have been going on for quite a while. We finally reached a point of mutual benefit and mutual respect. I think it is a good outcome,” he stated, noting that Indonesia had been engaged in one of the longest-running trade and tariff negotiations with the United States.
According to Indonesian officials, the meeting resulted in the signing of a new trade agreement between the two countries. Under the deal, both sides agreed to implement a reciprocal tariff rate of 19 percent on imports from Indonesia.
Indonesia was also the only member of the Board of Peace (BoP) to hold a bilateral meeting with President Trump on the sidelines of the board’s inaugural summit in Washington. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya confirmed that President Prabowo was the sole head of state granted a one-on-one meeting with the US President during the gathering.
In addition to the tariff agreement, Indonesia and the United States committed to a $38.4 billion package covering trade and investment across multiple sectors. The agreements were formalized during the 2026 US–Indonesia Business Summit held in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday.
President Prabowo underscored that the central objective of the discussions was to establish a fair and mutually beneficial trade framework that strengthens economic ties while safeguarding national interests.
The latest developments signal a significant step forward in Indonesia–US economic relations, reflecting both countries’ commitment to expanding bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
