President Prabowo Hosts Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu in Jakarta

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Sergei K. Shoigu, and his delegation at a luncheon held at the Presidential Lounge of the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday. The high-level visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral ties between Indonesia and Russia, fostering strategic partnerships in key sectors.
According to a statement from the president’s secretariat, Shoigu’s visit underscores the shared commitment of Indonesia and Russia to enhancing their strategic partnership, particularly in defense and security cooperation. The discussions also explored opportunities for expanded collaboration in various sectors of mutual interest.
Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha Nasir previously noted that the agenda for the meeting included discussions on economic, defense, and security matters, reflecting the broad spectrum of cooperation between the two nations.
Shoigu arrived at the Presidential Palace at approximately 12:30 p.m. local time, where he was received by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) General Agus Subiyanto, and the guards of honor. President Prabowo personally welcomed the Russian official at the palace’s veranda before leading him to the Credential Room for a handshake and an official photo session.
The meeting continued in President Prabowo’s office, where both leaders exchanged views on strategic issues, including the state of Indonesia-Russia bilateral relations and regional security dynamics. Following their discussions, Prabowo and Shoigu introduced members of their respective delegations.
Accompanying President Prabowo were Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) M. Herindra, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha Nasir.
Prior to his engagement at the Presidential Palace, Shoigu visited the Indonesian Ministry of Defense headquarters to explore potential military cooperation frameworks with Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. This visit is anticipated to pave the way for deeper defense collaboration between the two countries.
The meeting between President Prabowo and Secretary Shoigu marks another milestone in Indonesia-Russia relations, reinforcing mutual interests and paving the way for stronger bilateral cooperation in the future.
