Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday presided over his first Pancasila Sanctity Day ceremony at the Pancasila Sakti Monument in Lubang Buaya, Jakarta, honoring the 1965 killings of Indonesia’s Revolutionary Heroes.

The ceremony began around 8 a.m. local time, shortly after President Prabowo arrived and assumed his role as the inspector of the event. Addressing the gathering, President Prabowo said, “Let us remember the spirit and sacrifice of the Revolutionary Heroes and all those who fought for the sovereignty and independence of Indonesia.”

About Pancasila Sanctity Day

Observed annually on October 1, Pancasila Sanctity Day commemorates Indonesia’s commitment to its founding ideology, Pancasila. The 2025 ceremony carried the theme, “Pancasila: The Unifying Force Toward a Great Indonesia,” highlighting national unity and resilience.

The day marks Indonesia’s resistance against the 1965 attempted coup by the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI), known as the 30 September Movement (G30S/PKI), which sought to overthrow President Sukarno’s government and replace Pancasila with communism. The coup failed due to the vigilance and resistance of the Indonesian people.

Pancasila Sanctity Day was established by presidential decree to underscore the ideology’s role in unifying the nation. The G30S/PKI tragedy claimed the lives of six army generals and one junior officer, including Gen. Ahmad Yani and Capt. Pierre Tendean, who were buried in a mass grave at Lubang Buaya. Other victims included AIP II K.S. Tubun, Lt. Col. Sugiyono, and Ade Irma Suryani Nasution, daughter of Gen. A.H. Nasution—the sole surviving target of the failed coup.
