President Prabowo Meets Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto held a meeting with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday, following the military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in the War of Resistance against Japan and the end of World War II.
The meeting took place after a luncheon hosted by President Xi for foreign leaders attending the commemorative events in Tiananmen Square.
President Prabowo expressed regret at not being able to attend the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit due to domestic challenges but noted that Indonesia’s situation is stabilizing. “Indonesia and China are true friends. Our relationship is a top priority in Indonesia’s foreign policy,” he said, emphasizing Jakarta’s desire to expand cooperation in trade, investment, finance, and infrastructure. He also expressed appreciation for China’s continued support of Indonesia’s development.
President Xi praised Prabowo’s decision to visit despite domestic circumstances, describing it as a testament to Indonesia’s sincere friendship and commitment to strong bilateral ties. He reaffirmed China’s support for Indonesia’s political stability and long-term development.
Highlighting important milestones — including 75 years of diplomatic relations, Indonesia’s upcoming 80th anniversary of independence, and 70 years since the Bandung Conference — President Xi underscored the need to uphold independence, mutual benefit, and joint responsibility for peace and development.
The two leaders agreed to deepen alignment between Indonesia’s development priorities and China’s Belt and Road Initiative. Areas identified for expanded cooperation include defense, critical minerals, digital economy, artificial intelligence, agriculture, and fisheries. China also offered to share its poverty alleviation experience, strengthen cultural exchanges, and jointly oppose unilateralism in support of regional stability and global fairness.
President Prabowo was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Deputy Minister of Higher Education Stella Christie. President Xi was joined by Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao, and senior Communist Party official Cai Qi.
