President Prabowo Optimistic About Indonesia Becoming the World’s Food Barn

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Prabowo Subianto has voiced strong optimism that Indonesia has the potential to become the “world’s food barn,” during a discussion with governors participating in a simultaneous harvest activity across 14 provinces.
Speaking from Majalengka, West Java, where he led the harvest event on Monday, President Prabowo emphasized that the vision of making Indonesia a global rice producer is within reach, provided that policies continue to be inclusive and supportive of farmers.
“I believe we will become the world’s rice barn. We will provide assistance to countries that are struggling. Our goal is good and noble, and of course, we want our people and our farmers to live well and prosper,” the President stated.
Several governors who took part in the discussion commended the central government’s policies designed to enhance agricultural productivity and farmer welfare. Among those present were Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf, West Nusa Tenggara Governor Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, and Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal.
The governors highlighted recent initiatives such as setting the price of unhulled rice (gabah) at Rp6,500 per kilogram and the direct distribution of fertilizers, agricultural tools, and machinery to farmers. These measures, they said, have significantly improved land productivity in various regions.
As an example, South Sulawesi reported a production of 1,993 tons of unhulled rice in the first quarter of 2025—equivalent to the province’s entire annual yield in the previous year.
President Prabowo welcomed the reports from the regions, expressing confidence that the continuation and expansion of pro-farmer policies would further uplift the agriculture sector and bring prosperity to Indonesian farmers.
