Environmental Protection

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: President Emomali Rahmon, together with Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali, officially inaugurated the new headquarters of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan today, according to the president’s official website.

The state-of-the-art facility, located on Shevchenko Street in the capital’s Ismoili Somoni district, spans nine floors and includes a basement-level parking garage for official vehicles. It consolidates the Committee’s previously scattered departments and divisions, bringing under one roof executive offices, investment project centers, and affiliated organizations focused on safeguarding the environment.

The building also integrates sustainability features, including 100 solar panels capable of generating up to 70 kWh of clean energy daily.

A key highlight is the Digitalization and Innovation Center for Environmental Protection, situated on the ground floor. The high-tech hub hosts specialized units for monitoring tree growth, supervising landfills, assessing air and water quality, and mapping protected natural areas with satellite technology. Equipped with advanced systems, the Center enables experts to provide real-time remote support to regional inspectors during state environmental inspections.

The headquarters was financed through the Committee’s special-purpose resources.

On the same day, President Rahmon also inaugurated—via teleconference—two new residential buildings for employees of the Hydrometeorology Agency (Hydromet), part of the Environmental Protection Committee. The residential complex, funded by the Government of Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank, is located on a 1.26-hectare site and consists of two 11-story apartment blocks with 120 units in total. The apartments—40 one-bedroom, 40 two-bedroom, and 40 three-bedroom—cover a combined area of 10,904 square meters.

Designed with staff welfare in mind, the development includes a kindergarten, sports and playground facilities, a service center, parking, and basement storage.

These projects represent a major step in strengthening Tajikistan’s environmental governance while improving the living and working conditions of professionals dedicated to protecting the nation’s natural resources.
