President Rahmon Signs Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation for Central Asia’s Development

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has signed the Treaty on Friendship, Good-Neighborliness and Cooperation for the Development of Central Asia in the 21st Century, underscoring the country’s commitment to regional peace, stability, and sustainable development.

The signing ceremony was held in Dushanbe following President Rahmon’s meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu. Both sides emphasized that the comprehensive implementation of the treaty would serve as an important factor in ensuring stability and strengthening cooperation across Central Asia.

Discussions during the meeting covered a wide range of political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian issues, while also reviewing the schedule of upcoming high-level meetings, including preparations for the CIS summit and the Central Asia–Russia gathering in Dushanbe.

The treaty, originally signed on July 21, 2022, in Cholpon Ata by the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, was initially not joined by Tajikistan and Turkmenistan due to pending domestic procedures. With Tajikistan’s accession, the agreement now gains broader regional significance.

Under the treaty, the signatory states commit to strengthening peace, stability, and security in the region, as well as expanding cooperation in military and technical fields. They pledge mutual support in safeguarding independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while refraining from the use or threat of force against one another. The agreement also includes provisions to resolve disputes exclusively through peaceful dialogue and diplomatic mechanisms, while preventing third countries from using their territories or infrastructure against the interests of fellow signatories.

The treaty reflects a shared vision among Central Asian nations to foster stronger ties, protect regional sovereignty, and build a more integrated and cooperative future.
