This was stated by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Islamabad H.E. Oybek Usmanov while addressing a group of senior journalists and analysts of the capital here in the Embassy in a simple but impressive ceremony dedicated to the Day of Journalism in Uzbekistan.

The Ambassador added that Journalism is an important pillar of democracy which ensures protection of human rights, human values and most importantly freedom of speech.

Mr. Usmanov comprehensively apprised the attendees that the entire Uzbek nation in particular the youth are anxiously waiting to use their democratic voting right in the forthcoming Presidential elections on July 9, 2023 to elect a representative of their own choice for the fast track inclusive development of their country. The Ambassador said that all the necessary arrangements for the free, fair and transparent election has been made by the Central Election Commission and thousands of local and international observers as well as media men will be there to monitor the democratic process.

The envoy stated that the new constitution adopted by the people of Uzbekistan opens new horizons for bilateral and multilateral interaction. Uzbekistan’s foreign policy is based on the principles of sovereign equality, territorial integrity, peaceful settlement of disputes, non-interference in the internal affairs of others and upholding the norms of international law, he added.

He further said that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s international initiatives have earned wide-ranging support and applause from the international community. The foreign policy of the New Uzbekistan has led to fundamental changes in the political atmosphere in Central Asia and to the recognition of close interconnectivity with South Asia and interdependence at the sub-regional and global levels.

In order to further strengthen relations with neighboring countries in Central and South Asian regions, we have witnessed high-level events with delegations from nearly 30 partner countries, international organizations and experts from foreign think tanks representing more than 40 states including the delegates of brotherly Pakistan, he went on to say.

Touching Pakistan, Uzbekistan relations, the envoy said that it is high time for further cementing brotherly relations and re-connectivity between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

He informed that Uzbekistan-Pakistan Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade-Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation (IGC) was held on February 24 this year in Tashkent. The Road Map agreement to increase bilateral trade up to $1 billion was signed on the occasion and the next step will be the signing of a Road map on Industrial cooperation.

Transit Trade and Preferential Trade Agreements which became effective since March this year allowed to reach bilateral trade volume $150 million from $ 87 million.

On this occasion, prominent regional expert Dr. Mahmood-Ul-Hassan Khan explained the entire scenario of the forthcoming Presidential election through multimedia presentation such as the electoral program of all the 4 candidates, representing Liberal Democratic Party, People’s Democratic Party , Social Democratic Party Adolat and Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, total number of voters, polling stations, electoral staff, local and foreign observers etc.
