President Tô Lâm Departs for UNGA 79, Visit the US and Cuba

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and President of Vietnam Tô Lâm, accompanied by his spouse and a high-ranking delegation, departed from Hanoi this morning to attend the United Nations Summit of the Future and the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79) in New York. Following these engagements, the delegation will hold working sessions in the United States and later make a state visit to Cuba.

The visit to Cuba comes at the invitation of Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba, and his spouse.

Prominent members of the Vietnamese delegation include Politburo members: Nguyễn Hòa Bình, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister; Nguyễn Trọng Nghĩa, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and Chairman of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education; Phan Văn Giang, Minister of National Defence; and Lương Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security.

The trip to the United Nations underscores Vietnam’s continued commitment to contributing to the world’s largest multilateral organization, while also highlighting the country’s proactive engagement in addressing regional and international issues. This visit further cements Việt Nam’s role as an active player on the global stage.

In the United States, President Tô Lâm’s visit holds significant importance as it marks the first anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. As both countries prepare to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2025, the visit provides an opportunity to review the achievements of this partnership and discuss future directions. Both sides are expected to explore measures to sustain the positive and stable growth of their relations across multiple sectors in the years ahead.

Meanwhile, the state visit to Cuba underscores the deep-rooted solidarity and special friendship between the two nations, which is considered a treasured asset by both sides.
