President To Lam Engages with Vietnamese Community in Cambodia
Phnom Penh, The Gulf Observer: As part of his state visit to Cambodia, President To Lam met with representatives of Vietnamese diplomatic missions and the Vietnamese community residing in Cambodia. Ambassador Nguyễn Huy Tăng informed the President that over 100,000 Vietnamese nationals are currently living, working, and studying in Cambodia.
During the meeting, members of the Vietnamese community raised several key issues and proposals to enhance their living conditions in Cambodia. They urged the Vietnamese Party and State to advocate with the Cambodian Government for improved policies related to nationality, education, training, and employment. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of facilitating the activities of Vietnamese associations and businesses in Cambodia.
A significant aspiration voiced by the community was for scholarships to be provided to underprivileged children and for the establishment of schools and educational institutions dedicated to Vietnamese residents in Cambodia.
President To Lam briefed the overseas Vietnamese on his discussions with Cambodian leaders, highlighting mutual commitments to strengthen traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations. He expressed his advocacy for Cambodia to implement more supportive policies towards people of Vietnamese origin and provide increased incentives for Vietnamese enterprises operating in the country.
Reaffirming the Vietnamese Party and State’s commitment to overseas Vietnamese, especially those facing challenges in Cambodia, President Lam encouraged community members to formalize their legal status and abide by local regulations. He called upon the Khmer-Vietnamese Association, Vietnamese associations, and the entire Vietnamese community to maintain unity, support one another, and actively contribute to the socio-economic development of both Cambodia and Vietnam, fostering closer bilateral relations.
During the event, President To Lam presented a donation of US$20,000 to the Khmer-Vietnamese Association to support its initiatives, along with 200 gift packages distributed to individuals facing economic hardships.
