President Tokayev Applauds Kazakh Women’s Team for Securing Silver at 2024 World Chess Olympiad
Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Kazakhstan Women’s Chess Team for securing silver medals at the 2024 World Chess Olympiad, according to NHC.
In a message shared on his official Twitter account, President Tokayev praised the team’s remarkable performance, emphasizing the growing strength of Kazakhstan’s chess school. He also wished Kazakhstani athletes continued success in future competitions.
The Kazakhstani Women’s Team achieved historic success at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad held in Hungary, defeating some of the world’s strongest chess players, including teams from the United States and Poland. The team’s silver medal marks a significant milestone in Kazakhstan’s chess history, reflecting their progression in global standings over recent years.
India claimed gold in both the Men’s and Women’s categories at the Olympiad.
Kazakhstan’s team was led by 20-year-old International Master (IM) Bibisara Assaubayeva (2482), alongside a roster of talented young players, including 19-year-old IM Meruert Kamalidenova (2352), 18-year-old Woman International Master (WIM) Xeniya Balabayeva (2335), WIM Amina Kairbekova (2243), and the youngest team member, 17-year-old WIM Alua Nurman (2324), who made her Olympiad debut in Hungary.
The achievement is historic for Kazakhstan, with the team having previously finished fifth at the 44th World Chess Olympiad in Chennai (2022), 11th at the 43rd Olympiad in Batumi (2018), and 37th at the 42nd Olympiad in Baku (2016).
Despite the immense psychological pressure and grueling 11-game marathon, the young team demonstrated remarkable skill and composure, earning praise from the president of the Kazakh Chess Federation, Timur Turlov. “I am proud of the team and grateful to their coaches and parents,” said Turlov, acknowledging the dedication and hard work behind this remarkable achievement.
Kazakhstan’s silver medal at the 2024 World Chess Olympiad stands as a testament to the country’s growing presence in the international chess arena.
