President Tokayev Hails Historic Referendum as Kazakhstan Backs New Constitution

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has described the nationwide referendum on Kazakhstan’s new Constitution as a “truly historic event,” following the release of exit poll results indicating strong public support for constitutional reforms.

Speaking at the Kazmedia Center after the announcement of the preliminary results, the president said the referendum marked a significant milestone in the country’s democratic development.

“Today we have witnessed a truly historic event for our country. The citizens of Kazakhstan took part in the referendum and supported the constitutional reform. They cast their votes for the future of our homeland,” Tokayev said, according to a statement from Akorda.

Referring to the recently released exit polls, Tokayev stated that the results demonstrate that the nation has made a decisive choice.

“The exit poll results have just been published, according to which it can be confidently stated that Kazakhstan has made its historic choice in favor of a new Constitution,” he said.

The president emphasized that the outcome of the referendum reflects the collective will of the people and will shape the country’s future direction.

“Thus, through this vote, the people have determined the further course of history and the destiny of Kazakhstan,” Tokayev added.

He further noted that the expression of public will in the referendum would remain a defining moment in the nation’s history, symbolizing the patriotism and civic responsibility of the Kazakh people.

According to the president, the referendum represents an important step in strengthening Kazakhstan’s political system and advancing reforms aimed at building a more democratic and modern state.
