President Tokayev Inaugurates Kazakhstan-China Transport and Logistics Terminal in Xi’an
Astana, The Gulf Observer: In a momentous event conducted via teleconference, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev inaugurated the launch of the transport and logistics terminal in Xi’an, a key project under the Kazakhstan-China joint initiative. The ceremony, highlighted by Kazinform News Agency, saw President Tokayev emphasizing the terminal’s significance for both the transport and logistics industry and the deepening relations between Kazakhstan and China.
The terminal’s launch follows a pivotal agreement between Kazakh and Chinese leaders, focusing on the construction of a state-of-the-art logistics center within the dry port of Xi’an. This strategic connection aims to facilitate seamless transport links between the Chinese city of Shaanxi, Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and onward to Europe.
Xi’an, known as a central transit hub in China, boasts the country’s largest dry port and plays a crucial role in 40% of the total container train traffic between China and the European Union.
The Kazakhstani terminal within the Xi’an dry port is designed with a capacity exceeding 66.5 thousand TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) annually. This state-of-the-art terminal is poised to open new markets for Kazakhstani exporters, significantly reduce the delivery time of goods, and solidify Kazakhstan’s position as a reliable and efficient transit hub in Eurasia.
President Tokayev’s inauguration of the terminal reinforces the commitment to enhancing economic ties and connectivity between Kazakhstan and China. The joint project aligns with the broader vision of both nations to strengthen cooperation, foster economic development, and bolster their roles in the evolving landscape of global trade and logistics. As the terminal becomes operational, it is expected to contribute significantly to the economic prosperity and regional influence of both Kazakhstan and China.
