President Tokayev Meets Meta’s Yann LeCun to Discuss AI Cooperation

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Yann LeCun, Vice President and Chief AI Scientist of Meta, according to the Akorda press service.

During the meeting, Tokayev and LeCun exchanged views on the development and application of innovative technologies, with a focus on artificial intelligence.

The Head of State commended LeCun for his pioneering achievements in neural networks and his significant contribution to the advancement of AI. Tokayev underlined that Kazakhstan considers digitalization and the broad adoption of artificial intelligence as strategic priorities for national development. He highlighted ongoing efforts to build the country’s own AI ecosystem, including the creation of a large language model for the Kazakh language (KazLLM).

Welcoming the previously signed agreement with Meta Platforms Inc. to launch a joint AI acceleration program in Kazakhstan, Tokayev expressed readiness to strengthen the partnership with the global technology company.

As part of his working visit to New York, the President’s program has included a series of high-level meetings. Earlier, he met with the head of Canadian multinational Cameco to discuss cooperation in the uranium sector, followed by meetings with Jared Cohen, President of Global Affairs at Goldman Sachs Global Institute; Amit Sevak, President and CEO of Educational Testing Service; and Halle Butvin, Director of Special Projects at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.

On Monday, Tokayev also held talks with Stephen Kehoe, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the PepsiCo Foundation; David Zapolsky, Senior Vice President of Amazon; Frank Bruno, CEO of Cerberus Capital Management; and Michael Wirth, Chairman and CEO of Chevron Corporation.
