President Tokayev, Qatari PM Elevate Bilateral Relations to Strategic Partnership

Doha, The Gulf Observer: In a historic meeting between Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, a significant milestone was reached as the two nations elevated their bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership. The Akorda press service reported the successful conclusion of talks, highlighted by the signing of a comprehensive package of documents, which both leaders believe will usher in a new era of collaboration.

President Tokayev expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Al Thani for the warm welcome and underscored the deepening ties between Kazakhstan and Qatar. He emphasized his confidence that the agreements reached during the meeting would propel the partnership to unprecedented heights.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to you for being involved in the preparation of this visit, which turned out to be a real success. A package of documents has been signed, giving a very strong impetus to our relationship. As I told His Highness Amir of Qatar, we have elevated the relationship between both countries to the level of strategic partnership. I think it is a very big achievement. I am very happy to see this result,” President Tokayev remarked.

Acknowledging the success achieved, President Tokayev urged both nations not to be complacent but to explore new opportunities for mutual cooperation. Economic collaboration was emphasized as a major driver for joint efforts.

In response, Prime Minister Al Thani thanked President Tokayev for the visit and recognized the notable activation of bilateral relations in recent years. He expressed satisfaction with the upgraded status of the relationship to a strategic partnership and highlighted the significant progress made.

“We believe that there is quite a big potential for cooperation between our two states. We should not take this for granted and keep working on achieving more progress,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani noted.

The President called on the governments of both nations to focus on a concrete economic agenda to ensure positive trade dynamics. President Tokayev particularly emphasized the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, known as the Middle Corridor, to provide wider access to the vast markets of the Gulf region. He encouraged Qatari companies to engage in the development of major infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan.

The discussions also delved into the prospects of cooperation in agriculture, digitalization, and the energy sector. Both leaders expressed optimism about the future trajectory of their strengthened strategic partnership and the collaborative endeavors that lie ahead.
