President Xi Reaffirms China’s Commitment to the Global South at UNCTAD 60th Anniversary

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s unwavering status as a member of the Global South and its enduring commitment to developing countries during a video address at the opening ceremony of the 60th anniversary celebration of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
In his speech, President Xi highlighted the significant role UNCTAD has played over the past six decades in promoting South-South cooperation, advocating for North-South dialogue, and striving for a new international economic order. He praised the organization for its substantial contributions to global trade and development.
Amid accelerating global changes and emerging challenges to peace and development, Xi stressed the importance of building a community with a shared future for mankind, acting responsibly toward history and humanity. He called on all nations, particularly major powers, to practice genuine multilateralism, support an equitable multipolar world order, adhere to the UN Charter’s principles, and reinforce the roles of UNCTAD and other multilateral institutions.
President Xi advocated for inclusive economic globalization, enhanced trade and investment liberalization, and the addressing of developmental imbalances to achieve fairer global governance. Emphasizing the need to seize opportunities for innovation and development, he called for the creation of an open and non-discriminatory digital economy, improved governance of artificial intelligence under the UN framework, promotion of green transitions, and support for developing countries in embracing digital, smart, and green development trends.
As China celebrates the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic, Xi noted that the nation is pursuing comprehensive modernization through high-quality development, offering new opportunities for global growth. He reiterated China’s dedication to the Global South, committing to increase imports from developing countries, enhance trade, investment, and development cooperation, and support the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
China will continue to stand with developing nations, ensuring its role in fostering a more inclusive and equitable global economic landscape, President Xi concluded.
