Presidents of Uzbekistan and Finland Discuss Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation on September 9 with President of Finland Alexander Stubb to discuss the expansion of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, the Uzbek presidential press service reported.

The talks took place in the context of preparations for the forthcoming visit of the Finnish President to Uzbekistan. Both leaders reviewed in detail prospects for strengthening collaboration in the trade, economic, and humanitarian spheres.

They expressed satisfaction with the ongoing constructive political dialogue and interparliamentary exchanges. It was noted that bilateral trade turnover increased by 24 percent in 2024. Since 2022, the Finnish Nordic University has been successfully operating in Uzbekistan, while joint projects in the development of school education are also being implemented.

Special attention was given to opportunities for cooperation in agriculture, chemicals, energy, mining, telecommunications, and other innovative sectors, including the introduction of advanced technologies into the education system.

To prepare specific projects, the two sides proposed convening a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and organizing a business forum with the participation of leading companies from both countries.

The leaders also exchanged views on the current international agenda, underscoring the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and in accordance with international law.
