Qatar and Oman Forge Cultural Cooperation Agreement
Doha, The Gulf Observer: The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Culture, and the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, have solidified their commitment to cultural collaboration by signing the executive program for a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of culture. The ceremonial signing took place on the sidelines of the 33rd edition of the Doha International Book Fair, marking a significant step towards bolstering cultural exchange and cooperation between the two nations.
Dr. Ghanem Mubarak Al Ali, Assistant Undersecretary for Cultural Affairs at the Ministry of Culture, and Saeed bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of Culture at the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth in the Sultanate of Oman, affixed their signatures to the executive program, underscoring the mutual commitment to fostering cultural ties.
The memorandum of understanding encompasses a wide array of collaborative initiatives, including support for books, publishing, authorship, translation, digitization, book fairs, music, theater, libraries, archiving, and the protection and promotion of intangible cultural heritage. Additionally, the agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between cultural institutions, facilitate the exchange of cultural events and activities, share expertise, and conduct joint courses.
Effective for the years 2024 and 2025, the agreement signifies a renewed commitment to building upon the existing cooperation between Qatar and Oman in the cultural and artistic domains. By leveraging shared cultural heritage and fostering mutual understanding, the two nations aim to deepen their cultural bonds and promote greater appreciation and awareness of their rich traditions and heritage.
