Qatar Confirms Zero Cases of Mpox

Doha, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced that Qatar remains free of any cases of Mpox (formerly known as Monkeypox), attributing this success to a comprehensive range of public health measures, including enhanced surveillance for early detection.

In a statement released today, the Ministry emphasized that while Qatar’s health sector has consistently implemented precautionary measures, these efforts have been intensified in response to the evolving global situation and the World Health Organization’s declaration of Mpox as a public health emergency.

The MoPH reassured the public that healthcare professionals across both public and private sectors are fully prepared to manage any suspected or confirmed cases of Mpox. The Ministry is actively monitoring potential developments and is collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure early detection of any cases entering Qatar from affected countries.

The statement highlighted that the risk of contracting the Mpox virus within the community is extremely low, particularly for individuals who have not recently traveled to endemic regions in Africa or been in close contact with an infected person.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to closely monitoring the global and regional epidemiological situation and taking all necessary precautionary measures to safeguard public health.

This announcement comes after the World Health Organization declared Mpox a public health emergency due to the rapid increase in cases in certain parts of East and Central Africa.

Mpox, a viral disease first identified in 1958, primarily occurs in tropical rainforest areas of Central and West Africa but can occasionally spread to other regions. It is transmitted through close contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated materials, and causes symptoms such as fever, rashes, flu-like symptoms, and lesions. While most cases are mild, the virus can be more severe in children, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Qatar’s MoPH remains vigilant and committed to protecting the health and safety of its residents through ongoing monitoring and preventive measures.
